Missouri is in the middle of the United States now, think back a hundred fifty years though and we were on the outer edges of USA and there hadn't been a lot of development at the time.

Meals were cooked on campfires, and tents were a normal method of spending the night in strange places, especially when there was no motel close by. Since there were few people, they had to have some means of getting the needed supplies for survival. The railroad changed lives of those pioneer's, setting up new settlements throughout the wilderness.

The following railroads were instrumental in the transport of foods, cooking utensils, fabric and other supplies, such as nails, and people to this part of the country.

Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railway
Lexington Southern
Missouri Pacific
